And so, it is here. After all the interviews for it, the practices, the partying, the rampant cocaine use of Miami, the struggle of waiting, we are finally here. It’s Game Day, as the big one of all is here. Someone between the Chiefs and Niners are gonna be crown a champ, and both the young QB and the coaches are gonna win their first championship. No small talk, no bullshit, no Brady, no nothing. Let’s get on with the final showing of the football season* until we see you again in September.
*Unless you want to watch the XFL next week. Cause sure.
Super Bowl LIV
Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Francisco 49ers, 6:35 PM ET Fox
Line: KC -1.5
Whatever your opinions are about both teams, this should be a fun game. The Niners led by Jimmy Garoppolo, Kyle Shanahan, and a bevy of running backs. The Chiefs led by Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, and their speedy WRs. It should be a different feeling for both. The Chiefs will try to beat you with Mahomes. He will run, he will throw, he’ll do whatever that makes it looks like magic. With Hill, Watkins, Kelce and co. leading the way, they have a ton of weapons that will score on you fast and without mercy. Ask the Texans how that felt. The opposite affect is the Niners, and well, they don’t need to rely on Jimmy G that much. Yes, he does have Kittle, Sanders and Debo for his targets, but the Niners rely on their RBs more. Garoppolo only threw 8 TIMES in the NFC Championship game. All because Mostert ran the fuck all over the Packers whenever he wanted. Him, Coleman (if healthy), and Breida are the heart of this offense, and even though the Chiefs stopped Henry 2 weeks ago, taking on all 3 might be a chore.
But it’s not just the offense. The defense is there for both. The Chiefs defense has shown up since the middle of the season. Frank Clark, Mathieu, Sorensen and co. has been alot better as of late, and should give Jimmy G a hard time. If they stop the Niners’ run game, the Chiefs should win this game with ease. But the Niners also have their stout defense. Led by rookie Nick Bosa, and veteran Richard Sherman, the Niners defense has been fierce all year. They also are getting Kwon Alexander healthy too, as he been a big presence for this defense. Now, even though I said all this for both, the two teams have given up some points this year at times (Remember the great Niners-Saints game? Or the 1st Chiefs-Titans game?) I wouldn’t be surprise if both defenses show up, and not surprised at all if we get a shootout.
So, what do I expect? Well, I expect the latter. I think the Chiefs are rolling at the right time on offense, as Mahomes looks unstoppable, even when facing Bosa and co. I also think that the Niners can run on this Chiefs’ defense, and that will open up the play-action for Garoppolo to exploit. This should be a very exciting game, and I can see this getting into the 30’s. And yet, I also got a prediction to make. I think it will be tied late, and I think it will be Mahomes to lead the game-winning drive down the field, as he gets a game-winning TD late in the game, and it will lead to Sherman looking like this once more.
Andy Reid will finally get his first Super Bowl, and Mahomes will get a ring. Probably the first of what looks like a run for this young ketchup-on-steak dude. My prediction is this:
KC (-1.5) over SF Chiefs 37, 49ers 30
